Accentuate Members Only:Got A Print Book for Sale? The Robert Is Buying....

RobertArend - 10/11/2012 at 12:00 PM

Well, I've received the final home contents payment from Liberty Mutual Insurance. Some of you may remember I lost a lot of books in that fire back in early January, and that I posted I would be spending some of the settlement money to purchase your authored books.

First: Only Print books please. I do not have a Kindle. I only want to restock my library.

2nd: Please use this thread to post links to your works.

3rd: Paypal or Amazon payments only....

4th: My objective here is in support of Accentuate authors only at this time.

moonshadow68 - 10/11/2012 at 12:22 PM

Robert, What a sweet thing to do :)

Robert! That would be SO awesome. My North Country Cache is a print book, if it interests you, and I've always given Accentuate members a discount. Order it from and I'll only charge you $20 (plus the shipping- so $25 total).

RobertArend - 10/11/2012 at 01:44 PM

Can you provide a direct link to your book?

Michy - 10/11/2012 at 02:59 PM

Robert, do you need the TTM books? I'd be happy to send those free of charge to you, one of each.

RobertArend - 10/11/2012 at 03:41 PM

The anthologies survived, but Bubba did not. I will be purchasing from TTM's print book offerings on Monday:
Bubba Goes National, by Jennifer Walker - Paperback
Bubba to the Rescue, by Jennifer Walker (Paperback)
Passionate Pens: RENDEZVOUS.

I want to purchase other Accentuate members' linked print books all at once for those on Amazon in order to qualify for free shipping, so get those links up everybody....

sharkbytes - 10/11/2012 at 04:24 PM

Robert: At the bottom of Books Leaving Footprints is a link labeled "Order Form" Just click that and fill in the info. NCC is the first choice, so it's easy. I see that all the images are broken on the order form. So... that tells me that our t-one account is really finally dead, and I'll need to move all those images. Well, that won't happen for a couple of days, but the form should work fine. I just had some graphics that were still on the old server.

If you want to know more about what you are ordering, if you click on the picture of the book, oddly enough, the free chapter loads (it's also on the old server). I see I have some work to do, but it shouldn't affect your ability to order or make a decision.

Michy - 10/11/2012 at 04:28 PM

Robert, if you'll just send me $5 to cover the shipping, I'll send the books for free, my treat...

Theresa - 10/11/2012 at 04:35 PM

Robert, that's a really nice thing to do! Thanks a lot :)

My children's book Miro the Dragon and my YA fantasy/mystery are up on Amazon as print books:

Camack - 10/12/2012 at 06:49 AM

Robert, here's mine, if you're interested: $10.00
It's a collection of my short stories (the combination of three of my e-books on Smashwords).

Or, I could mail you an autographed copy, free of charge. Just pay actual shipping via PayPal.

(Glad you hear you are settled in.)

Nancy G. - 10/12/2012 at 08:15 AM

That is so sweet of you, Robert. Here's mine:

One story (Ghosts) in an anthology of Mississippi tales.

chrisstevenson - 10/12/2012 at 12:20 PM

What a neat gesture. Planet Janitor Custodian of the Stars comes with 26 illustrations, TOC and full wrap-around lithograph cover--pure evidence that my publisher went overboard in a good way.

RobertArend - 10/16/2012 at 01:42 PM

I guess those linked books are the complete list of Accentuate writer offers, so I went ahead and purchased:

1)Jennifer Walker's "Bubba Goes National" and "Bubba to the Rescue"
2) TTM's "Rendezvous"
3) Joan Young's "North Country Cache"
4) Theresa's "Milo the Dragon" and "The Lost Diadem"
5) Nancy Gibson's "Rocking Chair and Afternoon Tales"
6) Chris Stevenson's "Planet Janitor; Custodian to the Stars"
7) Catherin MacKenzie's "Loves and Liars"

Theresa - 10/16/2012 at 01:46 PM

Aww, that is so nice of you, Robert! I hope you really enjoy all those new books :)

Nancy G. - 10/16/2012 at 04:24 PM

Thank you, Robert! Maybe that'll help me get another story in the next time they put out calls.

Michy - 10/16/2012 at 05:27 PM

You got them from Amazon?

Well, thanks for trying... I lose money on every single sale--I thought I'd told you guys that before. On most books, it's about a .10 loss on every book sold on Amazon. It's why I asked you all to buy from the site instead, if at all possible.

I would have rather just sent you the books for free and you covered the shipping, which would have been cheaper for both of us... and I did offer.

RobertArend - 10/16/2012 at 06:16 PM

Sorry, Michy. I appreciated your offer, but I thought ordering off of Amazon at full price would provide better royalty to the authors....

Michy - 10/16/2012 at 06:22 PM

Robert, I've said this before, many times too, I calculate royalties on the retail price of the book, regardless of sales price...

But even using that logic, if the book makes no money, and in fact causes me to lose 10 cents, then there is no profit to share in the royalties anyway... so I don't see how buying from Amazon would result in increased royalties when it doesn't increase profit for the publish and in fact costs us money.

If you (and others wanting to buy books from TTM) really care about the authors getting royalties, then you should, in the future, as I've said over and over to the people on this board, to please order from the TTM site when it's a hard copy book. It makes a huge difference for us.

I'm to the point where I'm considering not even doing hard copy any more at all--if I can't even get the authors on this board to buy from the preferred payment location, it's just increasingly difficult to get anyone else to either.

Anyway, no biggie--at least it temporarily helps sales rank--sometimes that will spur interest in the Kindle editions, so maybe something really good will come from that. That will be awesome. Thanks for wanting to try to help, though...

I do hope your library can build back up soon... I have some really nice hard cover suspense books I'd be happy to send you if you're interested in suspense and thrillers.

RobertArend - 10/16/2012 at 06:43 PM

I also announced I purchased these books with links on Facebook to, hopefully, interest others enough to check these authors' books out themselves.

I didn't foresee doing this would get my tail kicked, though.

Michy - 10/16/2012 at 06:51 PM

I'm not in any way meaning to 'kick your tail', at all. It's just frustrating on this end, is all, when a business keeps losing money, especially when my own personal finances are so tight, and since the business isn't making a profit (and hasn't yet), it's my personal money going into the business. So it's knee-jerk on my part to be worried about sales and every time I see one come up on Amazon, I try to be positive about it. These books were all before we were doing Kindle format, so it really can't drives sales to the Kindle version for Rendezvous--but it might for Bubba1&2.

But to say that by reminding you (and everyone else) of something I have repeatedly asked for over and over is 'kicking your tail' really isn't fair to me, Robert. It's not like these are my books and I am personally profiting from them--these books have cost me thousands and thousands of dollars to do for YOU and other authors, and I did it willingly, and with gratitude and joy, but I don't think I'm wrong to want to hope for some return on that very large investment and to want to benefit the most number of people in the largest possible way. This is a business reaction, not a personal one--and even if it were personal, it wasn't unjustified to professionally say what I said.

I wasn't ugly... I wasn't rude. And I don't think I've done anything wrong here. I apologize if you think I was 'kicking your tail', but that totally wasn't my intention.

chrisstevenson - 10/16/2012 at 10:03 PM

May I join in thanking you for this gesture. I'm having my publisher put you on a freebie list and I've asked him for a couple of gift -e-book cards for you. I'll let you know when they arrive. I still don't know how to transfer or use them just yet--they're very new to the marketplace.

RobertArend - 10/16/2012 at 10:52 PM

There is no need to send me those cards, Chris, though I would like more information about that "new thing on the marketplace".

One of the hardest things any writer has to do, I've found, is getting other writers to support each other by buying each others books. I think what makes for such reluctance is the very real world fact that most struggling writers are also flat broke.

So I had a little money come in from my insurer to replace books destroyed by fire and smoke. I promised months ago I would reserve some of that money to support Accentuate members with print books to sell. Maybe the way I went about it didn't gleen for the writers the maximum potential profit, but each who linked did sell a book to me.

I made a promise months ago, and I have always been one to follow through with the promises I make.

And now I have some good books coming in the mail from writers I know to read, so both sides of these transactions gained something more valuable than the dollars spent.

LaurieM - 10/17/2012 at 01:13 PM

I don't get any royalties from it, but if you are interested, this book was released to the public today and I have a non-fiction story in it.
