I just said outloud, "Tomorrow is ABNA."
My son said, "What's abna? A Jewish holiday?"
I'm dying over here!

Well I entered but don't expect to place. We are all having a good time in the "Community" discussions preparing to console each other and lick each
others wounds. Unlike others, I'm not taking it too seriously, some have been having dreams about it and are checking their email every two seconds. I
have learned a lot here. Everyone gets rejected, it's a part of life. The true writers are those who never give up, never stop believing in
themselves.
I did make a lot of new friends there on the discussion forum and life will go on. I have a beautiful, wonderful wife who is true to me and loves me
in spite of my flaws. Two great kids and four grandkids who make life rich. I retire in 5 months and interviewed this week to teach at a local college
and that looks good if my past criminal record doesn't knock me out of the running. They like me and I am a really good medical teacher.
Hey, it was 1974, three drug charges when I was 17. I told my daughter about it and she said "Chill dad, what college professor didn't have drug
charges against them in the 70's?"
Life is good, win or not, I'll keep writing.
Don't let fear and common sense stand in your way.

Nancy, at the last minute, I pulled out of the contest.
I didn't realize until the night I went to enter that the ENTIRE novel had to be uploaded THAT night, and the novel was 'almost' ready, but not quite.
So I continued editing it (the last 20 chapters hadn't even had a first draft edit on them), working on it every day in between the other stuff I had
to do, and I didn't quite get it finished before the deadline.
I was still going to submit it anyway, figuring if it's really strong in the beginning and the editing is the only weak thing in the ending, I'd still
have a chance, and the first 5k and the pitch were solid - worked really hard on them - so I was going to submit anyway.
The problem was, the night I planned to submit it, I got a request for a partial and exclusive from an agent I had also submitted it to. I tossed it
around in my head and said I'd rather go with a bird in hand (the agent partial) than a bird in the bush (ABNA), so I canceled my submission.
I don't regret it - but I do wish I could have seen how the pitch went. I've got a novel I'm working on right now that I'm specifically writing FOR
this contest next year. I've been reading the pitches people have shared in the forum over there, and I've been matching up the winning pitches I've
read to the ones that didn't win to see what style is predominate, see what seems to be getting attention and what's not, etc.
I'll be ready next year to win this thing. Mark my words!
Love and stuff,
Michy

Man..... see what pain does to you? I was answering something that Nancy said in another thread, so you became her. Sorry about that, George. I'll get
it right next time.
I'm not too upset about not entering... really. As I started editing and preparing my pitch, I put it up to the universe and said that if I was meant
to enter this, it would happen in time and if I wasn't meant to, it wouldn't happen. It didn't happen. And a partial and exclusive request from an
agent is so much better than a second round cut - in a contest I probably wouldn't have made it through to the round after that anyway, because of the
genre of my story.
But observing the contest from the inside (their forum) and reading others' pitches and seeing who did and didn't win and what was popular and what
wasn't..... that was invaluable information I will use for next year and I will be prepared then.
Have a good day, Trisha.
Love and stuff,
Michy
