Paypal question

Does it cost to upgrade to a premier paypal account? I'd like to get the paypal debit card, but it says I need either a premier or business account rather than the basic. I've looked all over the site, and couldn't find the answer to my question, so I decided to ask here since several of you use pay pal. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Amber

It doesn't cost you anything upfront, but when you get paid, they will take a fee from your transactions, unless it's mass pay or it's paypal to paypal. That fee is 30 cents, plus 1-3% depending on how you get paid.

BUT they offer a 1% cash back on all purchases with your debit card, so if you use it for everything, like I do, it sorta evens out.

For MOST people, though, a premier account isn't worth it. IF you are going to be writing online a lot and being paid from lots of places and want quick access to your money, the debit card is awesome - but it does cost a little in the long run. IF you have a bank account and can wait the 2-3 days to get the withdrawn money, I'd recommend it for an individual.

Thanks Michy. I've been thinking about hooking the account up to my bank account, but I wasn't sure about doing that, either. For some reason, I'm rather leery about doing that, and I don't really want to start another account just to hook my paypal account up to it... Choices choices choices. lol.

Don't you HAVE to get a premier aco[Censored] -- (Whoops! Spelling error. I meant acCOUNT.) if you get paid over a certain amount per month? That's what they told me way back when. I've had a premier account for years, with the debit card, and love it.

Melanie, you don't HAVE to, but you're limited to transferring only 500 bucks per month if you don't. When you start making a lot of money, to lift that limit, you then have to get a premier account.

Amber, I've been with paypal for about 8 years now.... I can guarantee you they never take anything from your account that you don't give them permission to do. They are partially FDIC insured, and they are regulated by the FTC as well. PUtting your bank account info in with them is perfectly safe... and is, in fact, safer than a lot of banks are!

Plus, think of it this way - your bank account numbers or on the bottom of every check you write if you write a check.... it's safer to be with paypal where ONLY paypal gets your account information versus writing a check or giving that information to everyone you do business with.

I would much rather pay via paypal and have that come from my bank account than to give my bank information to a site online I don't know to pay for a purchase, and paypal has dispute resolution too... which is cool.

I know, I laughed too - some typos are great!

That is, I think, the ONLY word I have censored anymore....LOL

Yeah, good call. It's really never used in a good context. Well, I suppose unless it's a typo...

I'll think about that, then. And I also wondered what the spelling error had been. lol.

I use Paypal more than my bank account I think. I have a Premier account. Long ago, I had to get one for some reason. Or maybe I just wanted to because I could get another credit card with it. Yeah, I think that's how I got my Visa card. Anyway, the rules have morphed a lot since the beginning. I happened to join when it was very new, and once in a while I choose the right thing.

It's nice being able to transfer any amount. I kept all the property tax money there until it was time to pay because they pay more interest than my bank account.

Remember when a savings account paid 4% ? That would be a dream account now!

Yeah - you have to sign up for the money market account, and I'm not sure everyone knows about it - but it's currently around 2-4% - but it has been as low as .5% there too. Still, it doesn't cost anything to sign up - and so many people don't 'cause they don't know it's even available!

Whoops!

Ah yes, the transfer limit. All my income but Google Adsense comes through Paypal, so I guess I need the premier. Doesn't bother me any.

My first passbook saviings account, when I was probably 12 or so, got 9% interest. Ahhh the good old days. Didn't know how good I had it. Ha ha.

Amber, I have the Premier. I like being able to transfer as much of my money as I want without being told I have reached my limit. I use an extra bank account that I used for tuition payments when my kids attended a private elementary school. The account is used for nothing else, making it easier for me to keep track of activity. I prefer the extra account. If something were to happen, it wouldn't screw up all our financial transactions. I did not get the debit card. The transactions have been taking a day for me.
