One of those newbie questions...


This is probably one of those newbie questions that only an absolutely clueless person would ask. That said...

Ace books has submissions guidelines for their line. Easy enough to follow. No multiples. It takes them a mere five months to get back to you.

Do they expect that the manuscript is actually complete at the time you query? Is this one of those situations where a published author could send a query on something in-progress but a novice writer had better have a completed mss?

No, it's always expected that a fiction manuscript be complete when querying. Nonfiction need not be complete, and then you'd present a book proposal along with a chapter analysis (sometimes), but for fiction, the manuscript should always be complete and as close to publish ready as possible.
