When a publisher removes a call

I spent quite a lot of time working on a short to submit to an anthology. The deadline was on Jan. 17 and as I was preparing to submit it on Jan. 16 it was removed from the publisher's website. It literally disappeared five minutes before I was going to press send. There were other anthologies on that page that had later deadlines and they were all deleted.

Since I already had all the attachments attached and the email filled out I sent it anyway. Should I assume I won't hear anything from the publisher? Do you think their anthologies were nixed?

Wow, that's weird. I dunno!

I seemed to be looking down from an immense height upon a twilit grotto, knee-deep with filth, where a white-bearded daemon swineherd drove about with his staff a flock of fungous, flabby beasts whose appearance filled me with unutterable loathing.

Just keep writing and the good stuff will come.

There's really no telling. Maybe they decided to dump the whole project, maybe they got so many entries they couldn't take any more, maybe they got no entries, maybe they just wanted to reword the listings....there's no saying. Good that you went ahead and sent it--I'm sure it won't do any harm. All you can do is wait and see. Good luck!

If you were to invent one, you'd be a billionaire.

You can always email them separately and ask about it. They might just be changing the website or something too - I do that on the weekends when fewer people will be around looking at it. Maybe that's all it was. But if you email them, at least it will look like you're paying attention and attempting to follow their guidelines and such. It'll also make you stand out too, I think in a good way. As a publisher, I wouldn't mind someone writing to ask me if that happened.

Love and stuff,
Michy

You guys are the bestest. I'll definitely do that, Michy. I wasn't sure if emailing would be obnoxious but I'll certainly follow through now.
