How to Make Money Publishing Shorts on Amazon--thoughts?

I have done this.... I'm curious others' thoughts on the process.

Interesting. That article needs a heavy edit. I'm sure it says something about the works that person has out. But I digress.

It's interesting.

I seemed to be looking down from an immense height upon a twilit grotto, knee-deep with filth, where a white-bearded daemon swineherd drove about with his staff a flock of fungous, flabby beasts whose appearance filled me with unutterable loathing.

Just keep writing and the good stuff will come.

I have a hard time writing anything short. My mind transforms things into novels. I have done a few novella series (pen names), but nothing really standalone. Not sure how easy it would be to get traction on a single short (probably not at all).

I agree, D.... the thing is, I've done the shorter stories on Amazon and they do sell for a buck a pop--people will buy the quick read.

Melanie, I've found I like around 12-20k words.... almost a novel but it cuts out all the backstory and crap I can sometimes get bogged down in. I used to be like you--hated short stories, but that 15k sweet spot works for me and it is long enough most people won't mind popping down a buck for it... especially if it's erotica or porn... which Amazon allows porn as long as it doesn't break the incest or child porn rules. People will pop a buck to three bucks for a short titillation that's decently written with an erotic twist to it. If you go too deep into the characters you'll get a bad review saying it is too 'thought provoking' or to 'mature erotica' which has nothing to do with age.

I write under a male pen name..... it brings in money. Hey, I'm a slut for making a living writing! I don't mind erotica at all! I still try to tell a damned good story. Then I save my real pen name for my normal fiction like CELESTE. I want to write more like that one only longer. It's about 20k.

Working on one now called ABDUCTED. Got a Farah cover for it and everything!

i think it's just his blog though--I know my blog is a mess right now since I got hacked and they stole everything. I hope I'm not judged by it but who knows?

We really should put our best writing foot forward at all times. If someone sees a blog heavily in need of editing they are likely to assume the works you put out are too... it''s a really important observation you just made here!

Indeed! It's like when you show up early to the mechanic's place and see him roll up in a smoking and oxidized '89 Corolla. It may or may not be indicative of his wrenching skills, but you feel a little sketch nonetheless.

That really isn't a great example, because working on cars, for the most part, is just a learned thing we could all do but writing is art. There's no way an artist worth his salt is gonna leave napkin doodles around for the world to see. Unless they are great, of course. :D
