I am going to give this a whirl since I had a few extra bucks laying around. Got lucky and found a $20 in an old pair of jeans.

Here's the link for the winners of the Winter 2012 contest that several of us entered. http://writersweekly.com/contest/3rdwinter12.html

I think the 3rd place is best. The 2nd place has all kinds of problems. So much for what I think... haha, I didn't even get an honorable mention.

It seems to be more about coming up with a really wild and original idea than the actual execution. No sour grapes here, I'm thrilled that I won a book, but even looking at other past winners the quality of the writing seems to be more accidental than anything else. Definitely secondary to the concept/idea. It's something to keep in mind for next time! :D

Agreed- I'm guessing they just threw out all mermaid/sea monster stories as a group right up front.

PS- congrats on a book anyway!:)

I completely agree with you both, I think they went more for uniqueness than anything else. Shame but we live and learn. I enjoyed my angle and plan on working on it to make it more encompassing and a longer story.

And yes I lucked out and won a book as well in the grab bag.

I have a good feeling next time one from the Accentuate Group is going to be one of the winners, at the very least honorable mention.

Hah, I totally missed this, somehow. Ah, well, Marcus the Octopus will have to shine somewhere else.

I seemed to be looking down from an immense height upon a twilit grotto, knee-deep with filth, where a white-bearded daemon swineherd drove about with his staff a flock of fungous, flabby beasts whose appearance filled me with unutterable loathing.

Just keep writing and the good stuff will come.
