Let's Talk About Twitter

I'm going to do a blog about Twitter tonight or tomorrow, and I want you all to read it. It will talk about how to use twitter to promote your content, but it will give more information also about how to use twitter to promote you as an author, keep connected with other writers and folks who might want to read you too.

In the meantime, everyone please go sign up for Twitter and follow me:

http://twitter.com/MichelleLDevon

I regularly update important and unimportant things on Twitter.

I'm also going to show you guys a special program you can use, so you don't have to 'remember' to log in to check twitter too.

I'll come back with a link to the blog tomorrow....

If you have a twitter and want to add it here, give us the link in this thread.

I've been twittering for awhile now, still don't know why except all the braniacs tell me to! I'm following Erica Badu during her last days of pregnancy, that's kind of weird as she posts every scratch, burp, you name it.

Michy, before I join, is there any value in the name we use there? In other words, as writers should we use our pen name, if we use (or intend to use) a pen name. You always use your pen name, here and everywhere else, but when I am published ( note I said when, not if) I think I will use a pen name. Should I start out using that on Twitter, or use my real name (which I use here). I don't do the same type writing as you guys do, just fiction.

Yes, there is a lot of value in the name.

First, the FULL NAME that you use when you register will be sent to people you follow - if you don't want them to know your real name, don't put it in the full name section!

Secondly, the twitter username is also your URL and it's best if it's something easily identifiable to people who see you other places online.

If you want to use the twitter feature to connect with readers, you want to use your pen name.

If you're using it to connect with us, other writers, to network with writers about writing, then you would use whatever name you're known by to those folks.

It's acceptable to have two twitter accounts too - one for your writing, networking, friends, familly, real life folks... and one for your readers, readership and such like that.

On another note, I have two big surprises coming up this week for you guys and some fun stuff about to hit too!

I'll give you hints....

One of them has to do with books.

One of them has to do with cooking.

Hummm.....

And then we will have our own live chat on the forum by the weekend and won't have to use Chatango anymore!

Randy, I hear you there. I choose not to share some of my thoughts with the world. They would never view me the same again!

Michy, I follow the books clue (Woohoo!) and I'm psyched about the live chat feature. I guess I'll have to wait and see about the cooking surprise. That one has me stumped.

That's why I'm going to talk about it - too many people think that's what it is.

It's not. I mean, it is, and it can be, but it's not.

Actually, the cooking one has to do with books, hurricanes, and people too.

Don't try to figure it. You'll never guess in a million seconds!

You're getting closer to this stratosphere, but what does:

disaster, red, black, white, Lynn, and writing all have to do with that?

Throw Ryan in for good measure too.

Okay, so Lynn's writing a cookbook with black and white photos from all the hurricanes that have hit galveston and producing an e-book that Ryan will help with technology for and the proceeds are going to the Red Cross.
