WiseGeek?

Has anyone written for WiseGeek? I answered an ad (not knowing the company) and sent in writing samples. They responded that they liked my samples, and wanted me to go through their testing phase, which they will pay me for ($10 per article - the same as their normal pay).

Anyway, it's an encyclopedia type set-up and looks pretty interesting. I researched online and couldn't find any negative comments from writers about the site so far. In fact, everything I have read says that they pay quickly and that they have a higher writing standard than AC, DS, etc., and that the editors are tough, but pleasant to work with.

My only reservation is that, when I read through some of the articles covering topics I am very familiar with, I found the info to be completely false in some cases. And I thought that the writing was just not good at all. It bothered me to the extent that I was worried about even being associated with a site that does not offer more credible info.

Does anyone else have any experience or heard anything about them?

Their link is:

Thanks,
Cathy

My impression of wisegeek is that there isn't a lot of editorial control. Like you said, some of the things I read were just wrong and others highly inflammatory to one side of the other. I never saw what I would consider a balance article using the facts.
On the other hand, if they aren't going to edit your work, you can let your writing speak for itself.

Thanks, Cindy!

I'm thinking I may try it. $10 per article is not bad, plus I could write on topics that interest me (medicine and the arts). And I am one of those writers who actually likes to write encyclopedia-like articles.

I know that DS pays better, but when I applied, they said that they had no work for me at the present time. Don't know whether to take that literally or if that was just a nice rejection. And, as much as I love my Examiner topics and feel like I am making a difference with the causes I write about, I have got to start bringing in more money....

So, guess there's no harm in trying this one....
