I'm not having the most stellar of NaNos. Between the 12 hours a day I spend working and driving to/from work and the time i spend on paid writing at
home, I don't have a lot of time. When I have some free time, I kind of want to just decompress and do nothing, so it's hard to have the motivation to
write. The story is not as well developed in my head as the last two were, and that makes it hard, too. I broke 10k yesterday and will get some more
done later tonight, but this may be the first year I don't finish.

I switched to pen and paper for a while, and I think it helped. Now I'm going to type up what I wrote this morning, and hopefully it will keep flowing
from there. If I'm lucky, I'll meet todays WG of 1667 from what I already have written out. I love my big college ruled notebooks. You can fit so much
writing onto a single page.

Right now, I'm loving the Desktop version of Write or Die. I downloaded the program last night after Michy issued a challenge for me to catch up on my
word count and it kicked me into gear! It was only $10 to put it on my computer (I can download it to all the computers in our house, too) and now I
can use it anytime without being online. That's a biggie for me because the Internet offers too many distractions that pull me away when I'm suppose
to be writing.

I'm struggling with 1) German and 2) H1N!1! or whatever it's called these days. So I'm behind again. Gah. I might just switch to English for a bit and
see if that's any easier...

I am sooooooooo tired! I'm tired because I'm not getting enough sleep, and I am sick and tired of my characters. I hardly even care what happens to
them at this point. I don't feel like going on, but I WILL finish since I've come so far. It has been an amazing experience, unlike anything I've
done before, and I'm very glad I'm doing it, but I can't wait for it to be over and done. If I do this again, I will have an outline, plot and
character sketches done before I start so I won't be meandering aimlessly with no direction.

Jenn, I use the normal mode but adjust the setting to strict so it'll force me to keep typing. I'm not ready for the Kamikaze mode to eat my words.
I already had an unfortunate situation which led to me losing over 10,000 words of my novel. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it all up and still complete it by November 30th, but I'm determined finish it before Christmas
either way.

Jo, I saw on facebook what had happened! I had my own little scare yesterday with my comp not turning on. I freaked because that is the only thing I
care about in my puter except pics, is my writing. So I can only imagine how you feel, I thought I had lost mine and immediately backed it up on a
flash drive when the computer started. It is just to hard to remember to do that everyday because I write everyday.
I am glad your gonna keep going, so many would just throw in the towel.
I think write or die would be good for me because I have to stop so much during the day, but at night I'm just tired and lazy, so I think it would
help then.

Almost done! *dances* Only about 8000 more words to go. I'm so glad that I remembered to take part in NaNo this year. This has been so much fun! Even
the few days that I was stuck in the 30ks and couldn't seem to come up with anything to push my plot forward. But now I can barely keep up with the
thing! Now I no longer wonder if I'm going to make the 50k mare. Now I'm wondering where this thing's going to stop! lol. I'm rambling. hahaha. I'd
best get back to work on my novel rather than rambling here. I want to try to
make the 45k mark today if possible.

This is the first time I've checked in since last month. I've been too buried in my novel to think about much of anything else. Crossed the finish
line Tuesday (my first win) and now I'm at 54,000 words. Also working on a sequel which popped up and demanded to be written.

Hey! Congratulations.
Jo, you inspired me to buy Write or Die. I've been using the online version and loving it so figured I could support Dr. Wicked a bit by buying the
desktop version. I love that program. It really helps.
I've finally snuck over 21,000 on NaNoWriMo. Yay!

So I started being a slacker and didn't write much for over a week. Maybe a few hundred words a day. At this point I've got to write 3374/day in order
to win. I'm still going to try to do it, but I don't know if it's going to happen.
CONGRATS to all those who have already met the mark! And good luck to the rest of you who haven't.

I spent the last three days either doing book stuff, crying, or in bed.... so I'm woefully behind. I think I can still make 50K but I won't make my
110,000 goal that I set. (pout)
But who knows... on a really good day before I've been able to kick out 12k... one or two days like that and I can pull this out.
One of my stories is flowing good.
I hope Melanie's finger? *thumb?* is healing up and she's been able to write - Melanie, how's it doing? I imagine it still hurts. I have just a paper
cut from doing the books and it stings to type. I can't imagine slicing it and typing. Hope it's better.

Nah.. it was my pointer finger on my left hand. For a while I was actually typing without it and doing a surprisingly good job of hitting all the keys
with my middle finger. Then I tried Dragon, but I can't speak fiction like I can articles or non-fiction ebooks.
It is mostly healed now. Well, it still looks gross, but I can move it enough not to have too much pain.
I just hit 25,000 about a minute ago. I should have no problem getting the 2nd half done in the next 10 days.

Just don't let it get infected.... that would take you down a lot longer.
Ever since the cellulitis last year, I've kept Bactine and Peroxide around to clean even the smallest scratches the minute I get them.
I can't do the voice on any of my writing... I feel downright silly doing it... but mostly, my brain doesn't 'think' outloud. For me, part of the
creative process seems to be the connection the fingers and brain have together.

I can understand that. I think that's pretty much why I can't speak fiction. Most of my articles aren't all that creative, so I suppose I don't need
the fingers involved for those. Also agree about feeling rather foolish,
especially when I get to the mushy parts. I can't go on about that kind of stuff
with my Mom and sons listening in. Ha ha.
And nope, no infection. The bottom layer of skin is grown over now so it's 'sealed' for want of a better word. I had an infection in my finger after a
bad burn once... last Thanksgiving it was. Nasty.

I can't imagine doing the voice thing, either! Also, I've always been able to type stories far better than hand-write them...not just because it's
physically easier, but for some reason the creative juices flow better. *shrug*

Was too tired to keep at it the other night, so I didn't attempt to do so. I was reading an interesting book by Orson Scott Card instead called
Characters & Viewpoint.
EDIT: And I can't imagine dictating sexual or mushy scenes aloud while the family is listening. Yikes! lol.

I found it hiding between a couple of so-so looking books on writing on the very bottom shelf at my local Book Vault. I was basically in the fetal
position while trying to look at all the titles they had on offer. I'm just lucky I saw it, mainly because the bright purple color of it caught my
eye. I'm like a magpie when it comes to spying something purple. "Oooh, what's
that?" haha. It was a miracle that I even noticed the shelf. I was studying it while waiting on a few people to move, and just happened to see the
shelf was titled: Writing.
Well, back to NaNoing. Only 1500 words to go and I'm done with 50k! But no where near done with the story idea. It looks to be a long ride yet ahead
of me.

Just crossed the finish line, pant, pant. My word count widget on the NaNo site is stuck at the last number I updated it to, though.
The novel is the biggest mess; I kept changing my mind about stuff as I went along, and it doesn't make any sense. It's also not done, but I don't
want to keep going until I go back and fix all of the inconsistencies and decide exactly what I want to happen. But this is the first time I've
actually been able to write a rough draft without feeling compelled to make every sentence perfect before I can continue, which I think I a huge
accomplishment.

(ahem) no one on this board is allowed to call folks idiots, especially when it you calling yourself one!
you weren't an idiot! the universe probably just figured you needed to do something else more, that's all!
you'll catch up!
And even if you don't quite make the word count by the end of the month, you didn't lose. you will be more than 25k words farther into a novel than
you were before you started and by my measure, that's a win.

Thank's everyone! I'm going to keep at it, but first I need to catch up on a few article ideas that I shelved so that I could take part in NaNo...
lol. If I can get them all sorted out, I think I might have a hefty list to keep me busy for at least a day or two.
One thing NaNo has taught me is how to break down the dam and get the words flowing and out on paper, rather that sitting there tangled up in my mind
as I stare at a blank piece of paper (or computer screen), wondering where to start. I wrote a 500 word article in 15 minutes last night, rather than
the 45 it would have taken me before. Yay! And I noticed that it didn't have nearly the number of mistakes in it that it would have had before I
learned how to just write and not worry about editing until it was done.
