Creative Essay Contest - Write about your library experiences
Hey everyone,
I'm a writer for atyourlibrary.org and I am promoting a contest we are holding where you can win $350 for submitting a short creative essay on your
experiences with local libraries.
I came across this message board while searching for places to promote the contest and figured that some of you may be interested in it.
The direct URL to the contest page is: http://www.atyourlibrary.org/essay-contest
atyourlibrary.org is a division of the American Library Association. The contest ends on Dec. 7.
If you have any questions, send a private message or e-mail me at mvanderharst [at] imaginepub.com
Thanks!

I would enter if I could! We haven't done too many contests as the site isn't that old so whomever enters will have a pretty decent shot at winning!

Sadly, as this is limited to American Libraries from what I can see, I can't enter. Shame really, as I would have loved to share my library
experiences from when I was a kid.

Might I make a suggestion? Using a yahoo.com email address usually doesn't do a lot to instill trust in people that your website is a professional
endeavor - I'm not making an accusation here or anything, after all, I think what you're trying to build here is great, but I'm making a suggestion
that if you could get domain mail for the domain like: contests@atyourlibrary.org would really make things like this seem much more appealing and
professional to those of us who are used to entering contests like this.
I'm strongly considering entering this if my creative bug will bite me before the deadline. Whether I do or not, I do hope it does well!
I think libraries are public resources that children miss nowadays with the internet being so available, but I remember the puppet shows and the big
fishtank in the kid's floor (or library had an entire floor for kids), and all sorts of fun stuff as a child. I took my kids to the library when I was
a broke single mom because they had fun and free stuff for kids.
Love and stuff,
Michy

I completely understand about the @yahoo.com e-mail address. That part is beyond my control, unfortunately. But, I will pass the suggestion along for
our next contest that requires entries to be submitted via e-mail!
Thanks for the suggestion and hopefully your entry!

Are the submissions confirmed? I know a writer who emailed me about it said they had entered but didn't get a confirmation or a response and has
checked every day to see if the story was uploaded to the site, but it hasn't been yet.
How are they confirmed and how long does it take for them to get posted, generally?
Love and stuff,
Michy

Michy, I sent one in last week, and it took about a day for it to be reviewed and then it was on the site. They only show 3 on the page at one time.
You have to refresh. They then reshuffle and 3 more pop up. Voting is kinda strange right now too. I had a vote, now I don't. I am hoping that gets
better. Who knows.

I sent one in Monday night, and it went up this morning. The three to a page thing is kind of annoying, and I'm confused about the voting, too. I'd
be especially concerned if I was the person with a negative one vote!

Ohhh, that's not good. I mean, if I didn't notice that and though there were only three up, I wonder how many others do too? The same three are always
showing for me too, which means those first ones are getting more exposure and chances for votes randomly than the others.
Hummm.... there probably should be a better way to do that. I think I'll hold off submitting until I see how it goes with a few more folks. Thanks for
sharing your experiences!
Love and stuff,
Michy

I went to check on my submission, and I can't seem to connect to the site or see the submissions. Can y'all try the link at the beginning of this
thread and tell me if it is working for you? I put new security software on my computer last night and everything seems to be working great...until I
ran into this glitch.

It's my stupid computer then. I guess I won't worry about the contest, I have too many other issues to deal with. Thanks for checking.
